Most of the transportation to Hoi An comes from Da Nang City. It’s the largest city in central Vietnam and is widely known as Vietnam’s “ most liveiable city”. It is well organized for the many tourists who converge here – the majority of them having the tourist town of Hoi An on their agenda.

How to get to Hoi An from Da Nang Airport?

If you arrive by plane, you will land at Da Nang International Airport. It is a recently renovated airport to international standards. It has two terminals – domestic and international – and free wifi is easily accessible throughout the airport.

There are several transportation options from here, depending on your needs and budget. Below is a detailed description of each option, so you can get off the plane and start your vacation easily.

From Da Nang Airport to Hoi An by private car

Compared to other international destinations, private cars are remarkably affordable in Vietnam. For the majority of people, the difference in cost between other means of transportation is negligible. It is often much easier to pay a little extra for the vast increase in service level and the stress free nature. If you are traveling as a couple, the price is quite comparable.

And if you’re a family or a large group, this is probably the most convenient and cheapest option before the taxi or shuttle. After a long flight, never underestimate the relief of seeing a driver with a personalized sign ready to greet you as soon as you step off the plane – keep a cool head!

There are many agencies to book a private vehicle between Da Nang Airport and Hoi An. You can easily book them at most hotels or at homestays. After booking your stay in Hoi An, be sure to contact your accommodation to arrange for the provision of a private vehicle.

Danang – Hoian private car rental price

Prices may vary by hotel or booking agency and also depend on the size of the vehicle. On average, the price of renting a private 4-seater car costs around 220,000 to 500,000 VND (9.5 to 22 USD), 7-seater costs around 385,000 to 600,000 VND (16.50 to 26 USD), and a 12-16 seater van costs around 500,000 to 1 million VND (22 to 44 USD).

If you walk around Da Nang city, you will probably notice many signs announcing the possibilities of private transport to Hoi An for around 250,000 to 300,000 VND (11 to 13 USD). This is also the case in the opposite direction, from Hoi An to Da Nang Airport. If you book with one of these agencies, be sure to specify the location, time and price of the pickup and ask them to give you a reservation receipt upon payment.

From Da Nang to Hoi An by Hoi An Airport Express Shuttle

An even cheaper but still convenient option is the Hoi An Express Minibus which picks you up directly from the airport and takes you to Hoi An. A representative will greet you upon arrival at the airport holding a sign with your name on it. This avoids any confusion as to where the bus is located outside and makes the process more flexible.

The cost per person is 110,000 VND (4.70 USD), and the shuttle operates hourly from 5am to 11pm. Again, advance reservations can be made online via Hoi An Express, or via Get Your Guide.

It is also possible to reserve on site, although a place is not guaranteed. This option is also available in the reverse direction, from Hoi An to Da Nang Airport, whether you are staying near the beach or near the old town. They will pick you up directly from your hotel. The shuttle operates hourly from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Hoi An to Da Nang.

Note: Unless you are traveling alone, the cost of renting a private car or taxi is not that far from this price – remember that when you use a shuttle, you pay per person.

From Da Nang Airport to Hoi An by taxi

Taxis are everywhere outside the airport. They will probably wave to you rather than the other way around. If you take a cab, make sure they are using their meter and that it is working properly when entering the cab, or that you agree on a price before you leave. The average price is between 450,000 and 600,000 VND (19 to 26 USD). If it is a larger vehicle, it may be even higher.

Mai Linh (+84 0236 3565 656) or Vinasun (+84 (0) 236 3686 868) green taxis are the most popular and always use the meter in Hoi An and Da Nang. But if you’ve already booked your hotel in Hoi An, you can always ask them to book a taxi for you to pick you up from the airport. The price varies depending on where you are staying. But they may give you a better deal than if you took one yourself.

Mai Linh taxi also has a downloadable application for your smartphone where you can plug in your destination (up to the name of the hotel). There will be a number of taxis at the airport, so you don’t necessarily need to book using this app.

But he will give you an estimated rate which will give you more bargaining power. If you choose to book through the app, take note of the taxi license plate on your reservation so you can match it to the correct driver.

From Da Nang Airport to Hoi An by grab

Today, with smartphones, you can save money with ridesharing apps. In Da Nang and Hoi An area, this company is called Grab. It offers a downloadable application for your smartphone. There’s options for a Grab Motorcycle (if you’ve stocked up on light) for around 117,000 VND (5 USD). A grab taxi or a 4-seater car for 350,000-450,000 VND (15-19 USD). Or finally, a Grab XL 360,000 to 480,000 VND (15 to 20 USD). The price varies depending on the traffic and the time of day. However, this is a fixed price in advance, so there is no room for misinterpretation.

From Da Nang Airport to Hoi An by bus

If you are on a budget, you can take the bus, as it is the cheapest way to go from Da Nang to Hoi An and vice versa. There are several bus options, but the cheapest option is the local bus, although it is the most complicated. Da Nang has a local bus line (also known as the yellow bus) which takes you to Hoi An, with various stops along the way. Of course, it will take a little longer to get to the destination.

Da Nang Bus Station is located approximately 4 kilometers from the airport. You have to take the No. 1 bus from Da Nang to Hoi An. Unless you really want to sweat, walking 4 kilometers is not ideal with backpacks and suitcases. You can take a grab or taxi for around 20,000 VND (.85c USD) from the airport to the bus station.

Address of the Da Nang bus stop

The closest bus stop to the airport is located at 411 Dien Bien Phu. If you are taking the bus from this stop, make sure you are on Bus No.1 from Da Nang to Hoi An as there are several buses stopping there for different destinations. The bus will drop you off in Hoi An at a bus station located at 67 Nguyen Tat Thanh.

This station is about 1.5 km from the city, but Hoi An is a small town. It’s easy to walk for 15 minutes into the city center or take a taxi, depending on where you are staying and the size of your luggage.

The price listed on the Da Nang Bus website and on the sign above the bus driver is 20,000 VND (0.80 USD) per person. Unfortunately, this bus line often overloads tourists by insisting that they pay 30,000 VND (1.2 USD).

Bus No.1 runs from Da Nang to Hoi An every 20 minutes from 5.30am to 5.30pm daily.

Danang – Hoian by tourist bus

If you decide to spend some time in Da Nang before heading to Hoi An, you will quickly notice the abundance of travel agencies offering multiple bus options. There are open-circuit (“hop-on, hop-off” style) buses that crisscross the coast every day. There are other cities including Hue, Nha Trang, Da Lat, as well as Hoi An. If you just want to take a sightseeing bus directly to Hoi An, two well-known bus companies offer two buses a day each.

The Sinh Tourist company operates at 10:30 am and 3:30 pm from Da Nang to Hoi An. It costs around 80,000 to 100,000 VND (3.5 to 4.30 USD), depending on where you book it. The Hanh Cafe company offers a bus at 11:30 am and 4:30 pm for approximately 100,000 to 120,000 VND (4.30 to 5.10 USD). These buses are generally nicer than the local buses and are air conditioned. If you book a tourist bus, either online or with a travel agent, they will show you where their pick-up and drop-off points.

From Da Nang Airport to Hoi An by motorbike

The motorcycle is the most exciting option because it gives you the most flexibility. If you are light and have experience, we recommend that you hire a motorbike. It is the preferred mode of transportation for all Vietnamese and it allows you to go where you want, when you want. The road from Da Nang to Hoi An is a straight and flat road and is very easy to navigate.

The traffic is not as crazy as in the big cities of Hanoi or Saigon, although the driving rules are different if you are used to western standards. So be prepared to have to honk your horn and dodge various vehicles, pedestrians or chickens.

The price of motorcycles varies between 90,000 and 150,000 VND (3.90 to 6.50 USD) on average per day. But if you rent for a week or more, the price will be reduced. It is possible to rent motorcycles almost everywhere; you can also call or rent ahead and have motorcycles delivered to the airport or train station.
